The Uganda Library and Information Association (ULIA) offers several services aimed at supporting library and information professionals in Uganda:

1. Membership Services

  • Individual Membership: For professionals in the library and information science (LIS) field, providing access to resources, networking, and professional support.
  • Institutional Membership: For organizations such as libraries, universities, and information centers, promoting collaboration and resource sharing.

2. Capacity Building and Training

  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Organizes training programs, workshops, webinars, and conferences to enhance the skills of LIS professionals.
  • Curriculum Development: Contributes to reviewing and structuring LIS training curricula to meet industry needs.
  • Career Guidance and Internships: Provides guidance to LIS students and facilitates internship opportunities.

3. Advocacy and Policy Engagement

  • Policy Formulation: Participates in shaping policies that benefit the LIS profession.
  • Advocacy Programs: Works to improve wages, working conditions, and funding for the LIS sector.

4. Networking and Professional Development

  • Professional Events: Organizes conferences, dinners, and seminars to enable networking among LIS professionals.
  • Membership Mobilization: Builds and maintains a professional network of members.

5. Representation and Promotion of the LIS Profession

  • Acts as a unifying voice for LIS professionals in Uganda, advocating for professionalism, ethical standards, and improved working conditions.
